What Is The World’s View On Go Sober?

Go Sober – an organisation or an event?

For those who struggle with alcohol dependence, getting help is much easier thanks to Go Sober. It is an alcohol treatment program that promises to help people overcome their challenges and make better choices.

Getting sober doesn’t mean you have to miss all the fun. There are tons of alcohol free drinks and non alcoholic beverages to enjoy. Continue reading to learn about the benefits of going sober and how the treatment works.

Go Sober as an organisation

With help from medical professionals, neuroscientists, addiction specialists, and mental-health experts, Go Sober were able to create an outpatient alcohol treatment program that could help people get sober successfully. The program is taking a holistic approach to help those struggling with alcohol addiction to regain control of their life. They provide services including:

  • Counselling
  • Life coaching
  • Nutritional education
  • Physical training
  • Stress management

Their goal is to help recondition alcoholics’ mindsets and change people’s perceptions of alcohol. You would work one-on-one with addiction specialists, mental-health workers, and doctors at your leisure.

Go Sober as a fundraising event

Go Sober is not to be mistaken with Go Sober for October, which is a UK movement to raise funds for the MacMillan Cancer Support, which raised £2 million in 2014. This fundraising campaign incentivised those trying to get sober, by helping fundraise for those living with cancer to get the care they need. Numerous testimonials from people around the world expressed their gratitude for the program in helping them:

  • Get free from alcohol dependence
  • Have a program that is easy to follow
  • Receive care from professionals at their own time
  • Live a happier and healthier life

Reasons People Choose Non Alcoholic Drinks

In an online experiment conducted by researchers from the University of Bristol, the University of Cambridge, and the NIHR Bristol Biomedical Research Centre, they asked 800 adults to make their selections of hypothetical drinks. What this study showed is that 49% of the participants chose non alcoholic drinks when the proportion of non alcoholic drinks choices was higher than alcoholic drinks, but when they reversed the proportion of the selections, the result showed the value dropped to 26%.

Interestingly, when increasing the selection of non alcoholic drinks the odds of someone selecting a non alcoholic drink was 48% higher, and when both the proportion and total number of non alcoholic options was increased this number rose to 71%.

By increasing the exposure and availability of alcohol-free alternatives, people are much more inclined to choose them over alcoholic drinks, suggested by Dr. Anna Blackwell, a Senior Research Associate in Behavior Change in the School of Psychological Science.

The researchers are looking forward to implementing their study in the real world. They want to look at the significant changes in consumption and purchases if they introduce alcohol-free beers on draught. So, why do people prefer non alcoholic drinks?

More Time To Enjoy

Cutting back on drinking alcohol can change your routine, which could lead to more free time. This newly found freedom can be used to spend with family or hang out with friends, discover new interests or meet new people.

Having Fun Without The Buzz

Choosing non alcoholic beverages allows you to enjoy the moment without the hangover. Being sober lets you appreciate the conversation, the company, and be more present.

Better Choices Does Good To Your Body

Your body will thank you for drinking less. It gets rid of common complaints like upset stomach and indigestion. Reducing alcohol consumption also lowers your risk of developing long-term health problems like cancer, liver, and heart disease.

Health Benefits To Go Sober For A Month

We are all aware of the adverse impact that alcohol can make to your body. Finding a way to minimise or reduce your intake can reverse some of these effects.

1. Help Balance Blood Sugar Levels

Consuming alcohol can wreak havoc to your blood sugar levels. It can cause you to experience sudden highs and lows. This unpredictability makes you crave sweets or junk foods. With your body having a break from alcohol, you can make wiser and healthier food choices, and help you keep your blood sugar level well-balanced.

2. Improve Sleep Quality

Although alcoholic drinks can make someone fall asleep quickly, it does, however, harm sleep quality and energy levels. It can interrupt sleep patterns, which is why you can feel tired and exhausted the next day. Giving up alcohol can have an immediate effect on quality of sleep.

3. Stay Hydrated

Another adverse effect of alcohol on the body is dehydration. Drinking alcohol causes the kidneys to produce more urine because it is a diuretic. Being extremely dehydrated can lead to kidney failure and cause toxins to build up in the body.

4. Lose Weight

Cutting back alcohol can help you shed some pounds. According to the NHS UK, every one gram of alcohol contains seven calories. Cutting the amount of alcohol intake can reduce your overall calorie intake, making it easier to lose weight.

5. Changing Perspectives

Breaking your habit or dependence to alcohol changes you. Once you have control over your urges, you’ll find that it is easier to avoid or moderate your alcohol intake. You’ll feel more balanced and clear-minded when making your decisions.

Tips For An Easy And Successful Sobriety

Giving up your vices is never easy. However, if you have all the help you need, and you know what you are doing, you are setting yourself up to succeed. Using these tips will help you make it through your way to sobriety.

Get Some Support

You don’t have to take this voyage alone. Ask someone you love or a friend to partake in this challenge with you. It increases your chances of succeeding in staying sober if you have someone to give and receive support. When you find yourself losing your will against temptation, you’d feel grateful to have someone to motivate you and keep you on your track to sobriety.

Be Proactive And Avoid Temptations

Avoiding drinking does not mean you can’t be social. Shutting yourself in would only make you feel miserable. Plan activities that could make you push through your triggers and keep yourself busy. Having fun doesn’t always have to involve alcoholic drinks. It is time to get back or pick up a new hobby, or you can enjoy a film or game night with your friends.

Change Your Lifestyle

While you are on your way to a more positive you, you can take it a step further by taking a holistic approach. Try a healthier diet and exercise routine that you’d enjoy. It would not only improve your health but your mindset as well.

Keep Your Goal In Mind

Remember that you are not just doing it for yourself, but for others too. Your family, friends, and loved ones are thrilled and proud of your achievements. Joining the Go Sober for October is also giving people with cancer the help they need.

Experiment With Alternatives
