How To Sleep After Undergoing Breast Lift

Breast Augmentation NJ is a huge step. While deciding to undergo any procedure, there are a lot of things that are on our mind, especially with regard to aftercare. Sleeping plays a crucial role when it comes to recovery. Everyone prefers to sleep in a different position. In some cases, sleeping in the position you usually do might not be possible after having undergone the procedure. Here is your guide to various sleeping positions after undergoing breast augmentation.

What happens after undergoing the procedure?

After having undergone the procedure, you are asked to either wear a support bra or a compression garment for at least five to seven days. This garment is given with the purpose to provide support to the breast along with gentle compression. It is to be worn during the day as well as night while you are sleeping. Though the thought of sleeping in a compression garment might sound highly uncomfortable, that is not the case as it has been made from relaxed material which makes it extremely comfortable to sleep in.

How many pillows should you use and how should they be positioned?

You should have at least two to three pillows. After the procedure, you have to keep yourself elevated. Position these pillows under your head and upper back in such a way that it allows for proper elevation. This way it will help relieve the pressure from the breasts while the tissues are still inflamed and will minimize swelling and pain. Positioning the pillow under your knees might help to maintain a proper sleeping position.

Different Sleeping Positions

Sleeping on the side

If sleeping on the side is your natural sleeping position, then things are already looking up as many people find sleeping on the side after undergoing the procedure as the most comfortable sleeping position. Whether you sleep on the right side or the left side doesn’t matter, what matters is getting a goodnight’s rest. You could use a pillow to support the upper arm in case you are finding it a bit tedious to position yourself.

Sleeping on your back

Sleeping on your back is a comfortable position to sleep in after the surgery as it helps to reduce the pressure from the newly treated breasts.

Sleeping while sitting up

Whenever someone says that they have to sleep while sitting up, it sounds uncomfortable. However, it is a good position to sleep in if you aren’t able to sleep well on your back or your sides. You could try using an aeroplane pillow or a rolled-up towel for supporting your neck while you sleep.

Positions to avoid sleeping in

In case you are one of those who sleep on their stomach, then it is highly recommended that you avoid sleeping in that position for at least 4 – 6 weeks or until your body has healed as you have to avoid applying any pressure on the chest after the surgery.
