Spooky Tablescapes with Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores

The following review is part of the Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores Celebrate the Season campaign.  I received compensation for this review; however, this is my personal, honest opinion based on my experience.

It's Halloween.  In my house, that means it's just about the happiest time of the year.  In past years, I've done a Halloween extravaganza here on the ol' blog, but that whole pregnancy thing kept that from happening.  I am getting way too old to have children, that has become clear.

I did manage to get one sweet Halloween craft done, thanks to Jo-Ann Fabric.  See, they're awesome enough to let me participate in their Celebrate the Season campaign and put together a spooky little tablescape to show all of you.

I started my crafting with some apothecary jars, vases and candleholders.  Don't have any lying around?  USE THE AWESOME COUPON FROM JO-ANN'S AND BUY ONE AT 50% OFF!  At least, that's what I did... and it was awesome.

Next, I bought some foam board.  I drew out some little gravestones.  I know, morbid right?  Also awesome.

I cut them out with a craft knife...

And then painted them with acrylic paints.

A Sharpie was then used to write some epitaphs.

And then my little gravestones were put in the jars, after some moss was added first, of course.

And that was it! I had a spooky tablescape in no time!  And you can too... use the coupon from Jo-Ann's below.  And, visit the Jo-Ann's project website here for other great projects you can make!

I Made A Whole Person.

That's right... I made a human being.

Lilian Irene, born at 4:01am on October 11th, 2013.  She weighed 8 lbs, 4 oz.  She's just about perfect.

I'm trying to catch up on emails and whatnot, so if you've sent me an email, I'm working on it!  Thanks!

Being Kind for No Reason and The Best Part from Folgers

I have been on the receiving end of lots of kindness lately: let's face it, when you see a massively pregnant woman waddling toward you, you feel pity for her swollen feet and weary disposition and are more likely to let her in front of you at the checkout lane.  I assumed that all this kindness I've been witnessing was the result of my ginormous belly, until the other night when my husband received some kindness on his own.

We just moved.  And the bunkbed that my sons slept in was destroyed in the moving process.  And my sweet little boys had to sleep on mattresses on the floor LIKE ANIMALS.  Unbelievable.  So, as quick as we could, we ran out to buy new beds for them.  My husband was in the parking lot, trying desperately to load these new beds into our vehicle, when a complete stranger stopped on his bike and started to help him load them up.  There was nothing in it for that man, but he helped my husband load those heavy beds into our vehicle.

At the end, he even thanked us.  Can you imagine how kind that man must be in his everyday life?

Stories like this are why I'm loving "The Best Part" from Folgers.  This new social platform will let people submit their stories of kindness and positivity from their everyday life.  Let's face it, if there's anything we need more of, it's kindness and positivity.

The Best Part is an online community that’s dedicated to brightening your day—every day. How? By spreading optimism, one share at a time. The Wisest Kid in the World

I don't like to brag.  OK, that's totally false, I enjoy bragging.  I think I'm just super-duper and I tell everyone around me all about it.  That could be why the party invitations get lost in the mail, but whatever.  Anyhoo, I have to brag about my youngest son Noah... I'm pretty sure he's the wisest kid in the world.

So over at the Campbell's website, they're looking for submissions from the wisest kids in the world.  And since my Noah was blessed with his mother's verbal abundance, he has lots to say about lots of things.  So, I sat him down for a little interview.  Here's how that went:

Me: So Noah, what do you think is the biggest problem in the world today?

Noah:  Bugs.  Because they get in the house and I can't get them out.

Me:  How do you think we should handle the scourge of bugs in the world?

Noah:  What's 'skurge'?

Me: It sort of means 'problem'.

Noah: Then you should have said 'problem'.

Me: That's fine, Noah.  Let's move on.  What do you think about the government shutdown everyone's talking about?

Noah:  Governments don't shut down, mommy.  They just need a time-out.

Me: That's a good idea, Noah.  What should happen after the time-out is all over?

Noah: If they are still being bad, they won't get snack.  And that would teach them a lesson because snack time is my favorite time.

Me:  What do you think Congress likes to eat for snack?

Noah:  Probably popsicles.  But they have to eat them outside or they will melt all over and their mommies will get mad.

Me:  Is there anything else you would like to add to our interview?

Noah:  No.  Can I watch 'Tom and Jerry' now or do I have to keep talking to you?

Me: *sighing deeply* You can go, Noah.  Thank you for your words of wisdom.

Noah: You're welcome.

As you can see, interviewing people (especially children who probably could use a time-out or two themselves) is not the easiest thing in the world.  But you've got to love Campbell's for thinking this widget up:  kids are experts at what makes them happy... and they're pretty smart about what makes other people happy too.  The Campbell's recipe destination is a life-saver for pleasing smart-alec children with yummy dinner recipes.

Now you've seen the wonder of my wisest kid.  I want to see yours!  Head over to the Campbell's website and submit some words of wisdom from your kid!  It is easy and fun and you'll love to see what everyone else submitted!

We Bought a New House.

So, yeah... we bought a house.  We moved everything we own.  And I'm 38 weeks pregnant.

I'm a giant moron.

The good news is that we're totally moved in.  We are living out of boxes, but we are totally moved in.  I took pictures to show you but the camera cord is packed somewhere so I just have words to give you.  But they're small and easy words, so you don't have to use your brain.

Also, I'm having issues with email... I can get email but can't send any.  I'M LIVING LIKE A PILGRIM OVER HERE.  And we didn't have any internet, television or phone for three days so I had to communicate with people using smoke signals.  A bit outdated, but I'm sure the messages went through.  That is, until the fire department shut us down.

So, if you email me, you might not get an email back right away... but check the sky for smoke and you'll know that I'm thinking of you.
