You Gotta Take That Crafting Leap.

**This was a guest post I did for Christina's Adventures last week. I'm posting it here just in case you missed it!

I see you out there. You’re sipping your coffee, leisurely checking your favorite blogs, commenting on the great stuff you’re seeing, and then going on with your life. You just saw an awesome project on that last blog, so awesome you said to yourself, “Self, I wish I could do that!” I’m here to tell you that you can. Yes, you can.

There are some projects out in blogland that are intimidating, to be sure. I’ve seen projects that made me frightened to even read the tutorial. I saw one that called for an arc welder. No lie. What do I look like over here, Iron Man? Not so much.

My most popular post is this one. It’s wrought iron wall art made from toilet paper rolls. This looked really hard. And time-consuming. And require ridiculous patience. But I am tough. And capable. And full of myself self-assured. So I took the crafting leap. And it was a fun project, that only took a few nights to complete, was not terribly hard, and became my most popular post. My blog traffic multiplied by ten (yes, ten) because of that post. (Of course, my blog was very new at the time… but I gained traffic and followers like crazy, faster than I would have without that project.)

So I want to know: what keeps you from taking the crafting leap? Are you afraid to try? Afraid to fail? Afraid that the blogging world will laugh at you? Please let me assure you that you can do this. Really. Any project that looks tough can be conquered. Of course, in my opinion any project can be conquered with enough hot glue and spray paint.

Find a project that looks awesome. Read the tutorial. Read it again. Send an email to the writer with questions, they actually don’t mind. Gather your supplies. And start. You’ll be finished before you know it.

  1. This post must have been written for me. I wrote a similar one today about buying great Halloween stuff IN JULY that I still haven't done anything with. Then today - when I had all day at home - all I've done is read a book and blogs all day. (Well, I also tried to organize my pictures to make it quicker to blog this week, but that's about it. I sort of wasted the day.) Thanks for this post. I wonder how I missed it last week? (Oh, I remember - that was the week that I was gone each and every day!)

I love all the comments I get from you! Because of an insane amount of spam, I had to turn off anonymous commenting but I'd love it if you'd comment anyway!
